IN ARMENIA!
The Rugby Federation of Armenia extremely needs funds for development of rugby in the country. First of all for organizing a children's and youth sports school, assistance to the trainers, ensuring a normal training process (rent of training fields and gymnasiums, provision with a uniform and inventory), organizing competitions and raising of efficiency of the work of the Federation itself.

We are in advance grateful to everybody who will provide assistance to the Rugby Federation of Armenia and will transfer sums to our bank accounts. The Federation is ready for any level of transparency in the issue of control over spending of the allocated funds.

As of October 1, 2008, in the world rugby rankings the national rugby team of Armenia, according to the website wrr.live555.com, occupies the 33rd place among 65 national teams included in the rating list.




NATIONAL TEAM'S DEFEAT

A European Nations Cup division "3A" match between the national rugby teams of Switzerland and Armenia took place in the Swiss town of Yverdon Les Bains on November 22. The referee officiating the match was M. Gallastegi from Spain.

The match was held with the home team's advantage and ended 18:0 (15:0) for Switzerland. The home team made two successful tries, scored one conversions and two penalties. Unfortunately, the Armenian team failed to show any good performance.

NEW RUGBY CLUB FOUNDED

Celebrations dedicated to the birth of a new rugby club Ureni (Willow) and its children's and youth sport school took place at the town stadium in Ashtarak on November 15. The president of the newly established club is a former rugby player and today a prosperous businessman, Gegham Harutyunyan, and the rugby school will be headed by his former coach, pioneer of this marvelous game in Armenia Robert Melkonyan, in honor of whom this "smithy" of young rugby players has been named after.

The honor to open the official part of the celebration was given to Secretary-General of the Rugby Federation of Armenia Armen Adamyan, who after finishing his opening remarks awarded the president of RC "Ureni" with a memorable cup and new rugby balls. Congratulatory speeches were also made by the "Ararat" (Yerevan) rugby club Ashot Palyan and Harutyun Hakobyan - from the Union of Rugby Veterans, who also gifted balls to the young rugby players.

Gegham Harutyunyan and Robert Melkoyan spoke with return words as they told numerous spectators at the stadium who the idea of the establishment of the club was conceived, its first steps and successes. The club was founded on January 25, 2009, and November 15 is the official "Ureni" birthday. The club has already managed to make a trip to Georgia where rugby is held as nearly a national sport, and the country's national team is among the world rugby elite. In the town of Kobuleti, the young rugby players of "Ureni" beat their coevals from a local team in three matches, as well as ended one match in a draw.



As of December 1, 2009, in the world rugby rankings the national rugby team of Armenia, according to the website wrr.live555.com, occupies the 53rd place among 69 national teams included in the rating list.
